Hello kitty is a fictional character which designed by Ikuko Shimizu, produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. She is a very popular and cute cartoon character. Many people not only Children but also the young people, middle-aged, elderly all love her.

In Singapore Chinese Garden, 2004. We planned and produced this kitty Lantern Festival in the Mid-Autumn Festival with Chinese Garden. After 4 years later, it came into the Chinese Garden again, and named Lantern Festival 2008 F8 – Kitty Go Races!

In 2007 Singapore, the Chinese Garden has hold an Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival – Magic Ocean ( The mid-autumn festival is a Chinese traditional festival that is celebrated by hanging colorful lanterns and eating moon cakes ).

This year, lantern displays were put up not only in the Chinese Garden, but also at Chinatown and the Singapore River.

The theme of this lantern festival is about marine animals, when we were planning this festival, we want to use this way to arouse people’s awareness of marine conservation in this Chinese traditional festivals.

Lantern Festival SAFARI 2005 in Singapore Chinese Garden

Each year, Singapore Chinese Garden is transformed into a magical land of lights and lanterns during Chinese mid-autumn (Lantern) Festival in August / September. Lantern Festival SAFARI 2005 in Singapore Chinese Garden aslo opened at the Mid-Autumn Festival. According to the name – Lantern Festival SAFARI, we kown that year’s theme was about the safari. That was the largest Chinese Lantern Festival in the world before 2005.

In Chinese Garden, there was 1100 pieces of lanterns, there were 23 awesome themese of lanterns. China Zigong’s lantern experts gathered there, show the best Chinese lantern art to the visitors. Finally,this Chinese Lantern Festival (Lantern SAFARI the mythical archa)had a big success.

Greater Vancouver International Lantern Festival

Greater Vancouver International Lantern Festival was the Chinese Lantern Festival which display in Western Canada for the first time in 2008. It started from July 1st to September 21st, 2008. I think it is held for the Toronto Chinese Lantern Festival‘s great success, but due to lack of preparation and funding, the final results are not satisfactory

It was up to 56 well-designed lanterns in this year:The Dinosaur World which was first appearance in Canada; The Colorful unicorn which was beaten up with tens of thousands of environmentally-friendly small glass; The Goddess of Mercy which would sprinkle holy water out, and so on.

International Lantern Festival

While watching beautiful scenery, tourists can join the specially activities which were designed with participatory, informative, and interesting in lanterns .

This lantern festival has been making it’s way year after year to various cities around the world. Having been exhibited in Seoul, Tokyo, Austrlia, and landing in Toronto for the past two years. It’s finally here in Greater Vancouver! During this festival it runs at night from 7:30 – 11:30pm with the lighting of the chinese lanterns happening at 8:30pm. If you want to see the lanterns during the day, they have day showings on the weekends from 11am-2pm.

Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival 2008 in Toronto start from July 31. This celebration of Chinese craftsmanship and culture light up the Ontario Place waterfront until October 12, 2008. This year’s theme is about the architectural wonders of the world and the world’s animals in the seven continents . The motto was ‘light your dream’.

The Toronto Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival is a festival at Ontario Place in Canada. Sponsored by Rogers Media, the Chinese Lantern Festival is the biggest festival of lanterns outside Asia. The lanterns – large illuminated and animated displays often with a metal frame covered with paper and plastic – can be as high as 50 feet and also as long as 300 feet.

The Toronto event is based on the historical Chinese Lantern Festival, held on the fifteenth and final day of the Chinese New Years celebration. According to legend, a maid the Imperial Palace, named Yuanxiao, wanted to be home with her family for the Chinese New Year. She told the emperor that the God of Fire visited her and told her that he planned to burn down the city. She suggested that the emperor should make the city look like it was already burning so the God of Fire wouldn’t bother them. The emperor thus had the entire court and city put up colored lanterns and light firecrackers to mimic a great fire. In the confusion, Yuanxiao was able to sneak home. Since 2009, the Chinese Lantern Festival has been canceled indefinitely,as originally as an activity for one year, the prospect of planning for the future is uncertain events.

I’m one designer of this Canada Chinese Lantern Festival from China, I kown the reason of Chinese Lantern Festival has been canceled is for the Financial Crisis at this year. The number of tourists did not achieve the target, from 12,000 down to 8,000. And many tourists think that tickets were too expensive at that time. Another reason is the exchange quotation between Renminbi and Canadian dollar (cad) changed from about 8:1 to 6:1 since 2007.

I hope Chinese Lantern Festival will reture Canada Toronto in the future. Even in 2010, this three-year performance is still the best Chinese Lantern Festival in the world.
