Beijing Lantern Festival

Beijing is the capital of China, we held Lantern Festival very frequently for its cultural background in Beijing, the technological level of Beijing Lantern Festival is one of the most top Lantern Festival outside Zigong.

As we know, the Lantern Festival was held in the 15th day of Chinese new year, but in recent years, the Lantern Festival was not only held in the 15th day but also held in anytime which was worth celebrating. For example Return of Hong Kong, Beijing Olympic Games, World Expo.

In Beijing 2008, there held maximum quantity of Lantern Festival for the Olympic Games in history, we were very honored to made many lanterns for this great event.

Here is our Lantern Festival project pictures which we made in Longtan park of Beijing 2008, we made about 30 lantern complex and 200 lanterns there.

Shanghai Disney Lantern Festival

In 2005, Shanghai held a very large-scale Lantern Festival about the Disney for popularizing it to more Chinese people. We were very honored to make lanterns for this great event.

Shanghai Disney Lantern Festival showed more than 30 Disney stories, about 34 scenes of Disney stories with lanterns exhibited in Changfeng Park in 2005, Shanghai. And it held on evening of April 28, lasted itno June.

All these colorful and huge cartoon characters lantern were of the same size of the ones in the Disney Land, and combine with the lake, trees, lawns, hills in the park harmoniously. Each scene area will cover from 150 to 200 square meters.

In comparison with the one held in Singapore, Changfeng Park, which included a lake, was more suitable for a Disney Lantern Festival. Shanghai Disney Lantern Festival is the biggest one in Disney history.

Singapore Lantern Festival Design – F8 Kitty Go Races!

Introduction

Chinese Garden has developed her lantern festival from a humble beginning some 33 years ago. Today it has created such a stir that it is now celebrated as part of the Singapore Tourism Board’S annual calendar. This annual event is also multi pronged and has been able to attract multiracial SingaDoreans and our neighbors extensively, including the tourists that are in Singapore during that time of the year.

For 2008, Singapore would be organizing the first ever Formula One night race in September and the P 1 Power Boat Race immediately thereafter. Singapore also won the honor to host three world’s first ever Youth Olympic Games in 2010. And as a prelude, would be organizing the ASIAN games in 2009. These angles together with the elements of our rich Chinese heritage, has been factored into the planning ofthe Lantern Festival 2008

The Theme

“F8 Kitty Go Races!”(Featuring Hello Kitty and friends)will be wide ranging with the Mid—Autumn flavor and colors of the Chinese culture intertwined into the overall event. It will showcase sub-themes popular to every segment and races：
1. Branded Intellectual Property which is recognized worldwide.
2. Fun and lovable characters which promote family togetherness.
3. Exciting and educational sub themes fe. g. Games opening displayed in a traditional Greek settin9, the Mongolian Races, Sailin9, etc. ).
4. Cultural showcases of Chang Erh and her mid autumn beauties in its natural environment(displayed through four themes of lanterns) around the 7-storey pagoda landscape.
5. Educational promotion of 20 1 0 Youth Olympic Games and the Olympic Games in general.
6. Lanterns on display encompass land, aquatic and aerial lanterns in different modes and forms. Various techniques to increase interactivity will be utilized to display the liveliness, sounds and movements ofIhe exhibits. )

Target Audience

“F8 Kitty Go Races!” will undoubtedly bring about Hello Kitty fans as well as entice the young and young at heart to seek out what Chinese Garden would have installed for them. Tourists will be thrilled at the magnificent and colorful displays of lanterns ranging from small traditional palace lanterns to maj estic sized lanterns. Multicultural Singaporeans would be able to associate dearly with the characters of Hello Kitty and Friends, the different types of sporting races, as well as a Chinese festival with a fun twist that would fill the ambience of Chinese, Garden.

Event Dates: 29 August to 28 September 2008

The event will take place just before the school holidays and would run through the entire Mid-Autumn month. It would also overlap the F 1 race that is scheduled to be held during the September period.

The 21 Displays

The colorful designs that have been crafted provide an overview of the conceptual approach to the types of displays which has been planned.Upon confirmation of the tender award, the details will be further refined based on feedback and request from various supporting agencies.

Agency Support: Singapore Tourism Board Support

Based on our understanding, Lantern Festival conducted at the mega level would have a positive support from STB in conjunction with their annual MAF calendar. In addition, as our theme is closely associated with and supportive of the Formula One, our event may get further endorsement and support in terms of A&P. Fringe activities like ours would provide an option for tourists to see our multi-faceted Singapore.

Other Support: P1, Asian Youth Games And 2010 Youth Olympic

“F8 Kitty Go Races!” would cover a segment of each of these events and it would be opportunity for these games to be further promoted during our festival. In the event that our tender is accepted, Lanterns In Motion would venture to harness for their participations in our festival.

The Lantern Displays

All 21 displays promise to be exciting and engaging, providing continuous photo opportunities for all visitors who come to our event.It would cover three broad segments, namely:
1. Segment One Hello Kitty and Friends: It will showcase the different characters having a day of fun at the races. These scenes will contain a kaleidoscope of events that the characters are engaged in which include the championship awards ceremony, sailboat racing, tricycle race, racing pit stops, and so forth.
2. Segment Two Chinese Culture: Change Erh and her mid autumn beauties will be the main focus of the Chinese segment. There will be four distinct settings which will showcase the beauty of the ladies, as well as the talent of the lantern craftsmen. The Mongolian Race Day is also another segment within the festival, shown with a horseback riding competition to blend with the overall theme in addition colorful and majestic red and palace lanterns will grace the entire Chinese garden along walkways, on pagodas and lining treetops to give it a complete mid autumn splendor.

3. Segment Three Sports: A third segment of the event will showcase various sporting activities and races, intertwined with elegant Chinese lanterns in conjunction with Mid-Autumn Festival.

Supporting Activities
In order to complete the entire activity, supporting highlights are significant in creating the proper mood and atmosphere of the festival. To make it fun and engaging, a carnival spirit with a touch of “old-time” trends plus photo opportunities will be introduced to make the entire event experience as interactive as possible. Buskers as well as cultural performances will be
introduced into the entire festive celebrations, with tea session ceremonies.
It is the intent to create an energetic, carnival mood. At the event,we will engage cultural shows and performances, food and drink stalls, trade stalls as well as an area dedicated as a children’s entertainment area.
Official Opening
The Official Opening is recommended to be held on 28th August2008, a day before the event is open to the members of the public.It is planned that selected charity homes will be invited to partake in the launch of the event.
Conclusion

“F8 Kitty Go Races!” strives to be a family-focused event that is rich in Chinese culture and traditions. We will project with an array of colors and lights through the form of lanterns and ensure that Chinese Garden is turned into a magical land when the lights go on.

In Chinese Lantern Festival, there are so many folk activities in this Festival not only watching the lantern display, now I’ll introduce most of the Lantern Festival activities often show in the Lantern Festival for you.

1. Giant Lantern Display

As we know that the most important activity is watching the lantern display. I have post many information about it, in this post I’ll not talk too much about it.

2.Palm fibre weaving

Palm fibre weaving can make many great folk crafts which were made with hemp palm, like the bird, grasshopper and so on, it often exhibitis in the lantern display ground, people will watch the craftsmen’s show, and buy his crafts.

3. A drum-shaped rattle for children

Many people will buy a rattle drum for their children in Lantern Festival, When the seller keeps rocking their drum, the children often ask their mother for this gift.

4. Embroidery

In the Lantern Festiva facts, I have said the Chinese Lantern Festival is Chinese Valentine’s Day, in the ancient, if a girl is not good at embroidry, she would be thought that she is not a good wife, so even in the recent, this traditional craft is often exhibition in the Lantern Festival, people often buy a animal embroidery of this year for the next year’s auspicious.

5.Dragon and Phoenix Calligraphy

A painting viewed from afar looks like a dragon and phoenix, but nearly see is your name, some folk calligrapher often show their high-level skill in the Lantern Festival, if you paid some money, they will creat a unique Dragon and Phoenix Calligraphy with your name for you, in this year, a disabled person uses his mouth to creat a paining for me.

6. Chinese Kungfu show

Chinese Kungfu show also know as the Chinese martial arts, it is originated from Chinese ancient ancestors’ productive labor . It takes skill-hit as the main content and wrestling as the movement form which highlights Chinese traditional sport items. It is a valuable cultural heritage that the Chinese people accumulated for a long time. In the picture, you can see some Shaolin disciplesshow their Kungfu in the Lantern Festival.

7. Dragon Dance

Dragon is a very important and holy animal for Chinese, the Dragon Dance originated during the Han Dynasty, it is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese Lantern Festival. It likes the lion dance which is most often seen in festival celebrations.

8. Lion Dance

Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume. The lion dance is often mistaken as dragon dance. An easy way to tell the difference is that a lion is operated by two people, while a dragon needs many people. Also, in a lion dance, the performers’ faces are covered, since they are inside the lion.

9.Acrobatics

Chinese acrobatics performance already had a more than 2,500 years’ history in China, it’s as a folk art to display human body skills . It often show with other art like song , dance , Zaju , puppet etc in the Lantern Festival’s arena.

10.Opera Show

Opera Show is originated from primitive songs and dances. Through a long-time development and absorbtion of many factors like folk dance, performance, Kungfu and other art. It forms an artistic expression form of using multiway to express life and build personages. Chinese opera show embodies the unique opera ascetic ideas and artistic features of Chinese nation.

11.Face Changing Show

Sichuan opera is the operatic-tune art form with Sichuan charateristics. Face changing and spitting fire are the two most common and influential traditional stunts in Sichuan opera performance art. Its basic goal lies in helping to portray personages’ image .

Lantern Festival is a happy holidays, surely it can not out of firecrackers, especially the celebration of Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival by Chinese communities around the world.

13. Guessing the Lantern riddles

People in the festival must guess the answer from a word , a poem or a phrase, guessing the riddles are as hard as fighting with a tiger, so that lantern riddles have another name - ‘lantern tigers’ .

14.Puppet Show

The Chinese Puppet Show is known as mu’ouxi (play of wooden dolls), in the country, which has its roots in remote time. Traditionally, Puppet Show comes in three forms: the rod-top puppet, the marionette or string puppet and the glove or hand puppet. In China, the rod-top puppet is the most popular show.

Shadow Theater is the appellation of shadow show and its personages products ( including props and sceneries) . Chinese Shadow Theater, which is simple and elegant with profound national flavour, has the value both for appreciation and reservation.

The 8th Zigong Dinosaur International Lantern Festival started from February 1 to March 10 in 2002. Lasted 38 days and received 600,000 foreign visitors. The lantern sets “Century holy lantern,” “Zodiac fireworks,” success join in the “Century Guinness.”
